Wheelchair Robot that Can Walk on Stairs from Chiba Institute of Technology

Persons with disabilities in daily activities always uses a wheelchair, would be pleased to hear this news because researchers from the Chiba Institute of Technology, Japan, create a robotic wheelchair that will assist the disabled when running on a lot of obstacles. As an example of this wheelchair robot can walk on stairs, because the wheels of the robot has a double function: as an ordinary wheel and a leg.

Like other wheelchair, this robot has four wheels but each wheel to move separately and has motion like a foot. At the bottom of the seat there are sensors that detect the presence of obstacles on the road, and then the sensor will notify the user, so they was ready to get through these obstacles, example if there was a rock on the street that will be passed, then the wheels will step up and avoid.

The system can also be used to detect roads were impassable and make adjustments so when the road tilted, each wheel will automatically adjust the height so the user can still sit in a state of straight (not tilted), and is also designed to maintain the position of the user in order to stay balanced and comfortable when on uneven terrain.
Moreover, this wheelchair robot also has the ability to rotate clockwise and vice versa, and one thing that is also very important is very easy to operate via a joystick to control the speed and direction of movement.
